Yes, I do – and it’s a lot of fun. When I was a kid I used to tinker and the desire to read/experiment is still very strong. It’s hard to do given the practical limitations of adult life – but on the positive side the resources available to me are broader, so fun experiments tend to take less time…
I prefer not too, I’m usually scienced out at the end of the day. I do like science tv programmes in physics such as with Brian Cox, he is brilliant at making things easy to follow and interesting.
I tend not to spend a lot of time reading/researching things in my area of science in my spare time, after a whole day of it in the lab its nice to think about something else! Having said that I do inevitably end up thinking about my experiments sometimes, especially if I am trying to solve a difficult problem.
I do sometimes like to hear or read about other areas of science in my spare time though, for example I love David Attenboroughs nature programs and I’ve read a few sciency books although these tend to be “popular science” books rather than textbooks or other complicated things!
I try and get all of my science done when I am at work but sometimes I need to do things in my spare time to meet deadlines. I try and keep my spare time for other things but also use it to read more light-hearted science books and magazines. 🙂
I most definitely keep the hardcore science at work. It’s great to get home and chill out after thinking about abstract concepts all day. Although, I love to watch science programmes and read popular science books, which aren’t too taxing.
