      ‘Big bang’ is a theory that concerns the very beginning of what we currently perceive as ‘the Universe’ – approximately 13-14 billion years ago. The theory presupposes that the entire Universe was once a singularity that rapidly exploded/expanded from an incredibly condensed state into what it is today, and that it continues to expand.

      Notably, the BBT does *not* reason in the direction before the actual Big Bang – it only deals with events occurring after the event. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang
