There are none that we know of at this moment in time. However, there are many endeavours around the World to detect and communicate with alien life. The most popular of these is the “Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence” program (SETI for short). This program is aimed at detecting radio signals from the very far reaches of space in case any lifeforms are attempting to communicate with us.

SETI is based partly on the work of Professor Frank Drake, who devised an equation to calculate how many planets with extra-terrestrial life in our galaxy we may potentially communicate with. Some have estimated this value to be as high as 100 million planets in the known Universe! A truly staggering figure!

If that number is the case, then I’m pretty sure that we are not alone in the Universe and we will someday find them……or they’ll find us!!!

There are arguments back and forth about this that can be generalized into several categories:

      a) aliens exist and they’re too far to get here (but they might stop by some day
      b) aliens exist but they really don’t care about us or have no basis for interaction with us (consider hypothetical aliens who live on a time scale that is 1000x factor of ours – our entire civilizations would rise and fall before they would even notice that something changes)
      c) aliens do not exist, since they’re not here already
      d) aliens do not exist because the Universe is a lot smaller than it seems to be
      e) aliens abducted my grandma and now she is afraid of mustard and the letter ‘C’
